KPA Opening Day Results - Tuesday June 10

 

The 18th Annual Kentuckiana Pro Am Summer League kicked off last night at Beth Haven Christian (Bailey Fieldhouse). The night featured some excellent basketball, and it will only improve each night as we wind down to naming a 2014 KPA champion.

 

Game 1

KPA #3 101 KPA #2 87

 

KPA 3 defeated KPA 2 101 to 87 in the first game. KPA 3 was led by  Quayshaun Hamilton (Spalding 2014)  with 21 points. The talented 6-5 wing scored in a variety of ways, and had 4 3pt. field goals on the night. Current pro in Germany Chartreal Hall had 19pts. also for KPA 3. Donovan Johnson (Kentucky Wesleyan 2014) and Antonio Sullivan (Kentucky State 2014) both had 18pts. for KPA 3. Former IU Southesast and current pro in Italy Jazzmarr Ferguson made his first KPA appearance and poured in 27 points including 6 3pt. goals. Ferguson is an excellent point guard who can score the ball.  Also former IU Southeast product and current pro in the UBA Carlos Mitchell had 14 points for KPA 2. *Note KPA 3 played without  A.J. Slaughter (Western Ky./France) who was at the game and will play in the KPA next week. Slaughter also said that current Utah Jazz product and former NBA Slam Dunk Champion Jeremy Evans will be in uniform at the KPA next week. Evans was a member of the 2011 KPA All Tournament Team.

Team Southern Indiana 124 KPA #1 98

 

In Game 2 Team Southern Indiana defeated KPA#1 124 to 98. Matt Dennison's Team Southern Indiana team came ready to play behind 33 points from Antonio Ballard (Miami Ohio/Canada (Island Storm). Ballard making his first KPA appearance put on a show. He had several highlight reel dunks and scored in a variety of ways. Ballard an All Star in Canada currently will be a real treat for KPA fans this summer. Current Lincoln Trail J.C. player Darryl Baker had 24, and TeNale Roland (Utah State 2014) had 23 for Team Southern Indiana. Current Bellarmine player Donnie Hale also had 13. KPA #1 was led by current pro in Portugal Chris Dowe with 23 points. Dowe also made his first KPA appearance and showed what an upside he has at the pro level.  Current Florida Tech standout Jermaine Jackson scored 22 points, and showed why he will be a  pre-season D2 All American candidate next season. Current Lindsey Wilson player Tony Horne scored 17 points, and current Union College player Sean Brown had 16 for KPA #1.

KPA Day 2 Results - June 12 The 2nd night of the KPA Summer League featured a very competitive first game that saw Team Southern Indiana pull away in the 2nd half to improve to 2-0.  Team Southern Indiana defeated KPA #2 by a score of 108-92. Team Southern Indiana was led by Antonio Ballard (Miami Ohio/Canada) with 35 points. Ballard continues to electrify the KPA crowd with some amazing plays on both ends of the floor. Chris Whitehead (Fordham) scored 25 points, and Darryl Baker (Lincoln Trail J.C.) had 20 for Team Southern Indiana. KPA #2 was led by current pro in Italy Jazzmarr Ferguson with 31 points, including 7 3pt. goals. Ferguson played high school ball at Moore High and college ball at IU Southeast, and now is playing high level pro ball in Europe, and is showing why in the KPA. Former Kentucky State player Davin Anderson scored 17 points for KPA #2 and really played hard with several big time hustle plays throughout the game. Former Spalding player Dewhom McAfee chipped in with 13.

The 2nd Game was won by KPA #3 over KPA #1 by a score of 111-81. KPA #3 was led by former Kentucky State player Antonio Sullivan with 26 points including 4 3pt. goals. Sullivan was driving to the hole as well as coming off ball screens for 3pt. shots. Current Thomas More player Chris Richard had 19points, and current pro in Germany Chartreal Hall had 18points for KPA #3. Current Pikeville University player Trey Rakes had 16 points including 4 3pt. goals. Current pro in Portugal and former D2 National Champion at Bellarmine Chris Dowe had 23 for KPA #1. Kalin Kimberland (Lindsey Wilson/Bowling Green Hornets CBL) had 19 for KPA #1.

GAMES RESUME ON TUESDAY JUNE 17 at 8p.m.  with KPA 1 (0-2) vs. KPA 2 (0-2), and at 9:15p.m. with Team Southern Indiana (2-0) vs. KPA 3 (2-0). The playoffs will begin Thursday June 19. All games at Bailey Fieldhouse (Beth Haven Christian 5515 Johnsontown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40272. Several roster additions will be made next week.

 

 

KPA Day 3  Results - June 17   The 3rd night of the KPA was the final night of league play with teams playing for seeding in the KPA playoffs which begin this Thursday night. The 2nd game of the night was an excellent basketball game with KPA #3 defeating Team Southern Indiana by a score of 94-90. The game was back and forth the entire way, and KPA #3 made free throws down the stretch to seal the win. KPA #3 was led by former Western Kentucky star and current pro in France A. J. Slaughter. Slaughter making his 3rd KPA appearance in the the 18 year history of the event scored 21 points with 4 3pt. goals. More importantly Slaughter and Antonio Sullivan were 4 for 4 from the foul line in the 4th period. Former Kentucky Wesleyan forward Donovan Johnson had a solid game for KPA #3 with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The 6-6 forward is a very versatile player who can play at the next level. Chris Richard (Thomas More) scored 13, and Antonio Sullivan (Kentucky State) had 13 for KPA 3.  Team Southern Indiana was playing without the KPA's leading scorer in Antonio Ballard, however they put up a great battle in this one. Team SI was led by Chris Whitehead (Fordham/transferring) with 25 points, and Whitehead competed for 40 minutes on both ends of the floor. Whitehead is a solid PG, who has a pro body. Also a top 5 scorer in the KPA this summer Darryl Baker (Lincoln Trail J.C.) scored 24 for Team SI. Baker is a big time wing player who can score in a variety of ways and is very athletic. Former Utah State pg Tenale Roland scored 20 also for Team SI.

Game 1 on the night saw KPA #2 defeat KPA #1 by a score of 121-100.  KPA #2 was led by current pro in Italy Jazzmarr Ferguson with 27 points. Ferguson the second leading scorer in the KPA continued his steady play at the PG position for KPA #2. Also former Spalding standout Dewhom McAfee poured in 26 points with 4 3pt. goals made. McAfee is a nice strong guard, who can shoot it off the dribble very well. Carlos Mitchell (IU Southeast/Lville Diesel UBA) scored 18,  and former Kentucky State player Davin Anderson scored 15 for KPA #2. KPA #1 was led by current pro in Portugal Chris Dowe with 27 points. Dowe a top 3 scorer in the KPA this summer continues to bring it every night at the KPA. Former Lindsey Wilson and pro with the Bowling Green Hornets Kalin Kimberland scored 19, and current Union College guard Sean Brown scored 17 for KPA #1.

PLAYOFFS BEGIN THURSDAY NIGHT at 8p.m. with Team Southern Indiana (2 seed) vs. KPA #2 (3 seed) and at 9:15p.m. KPA #3 (1 seed) vs. KPA #4 (4 seed). The 18th champion of the event will be crowned on Tuesday June 24, as well as announcement of All League team and MVP.

KPA Playoffs Begin!!!!

Big time summer basketball tonight as the playoffs began in the 18th Annual Kentuckiana Pro Am Summer League. The second game saw current Detroit Piston and former University of Louisville All American Peyton Siva make his first KPA appearance. Chris Dowe scored 35 and Siva 29 to lead KPA #1 to a 106 to 103 victory over KPA #3. Dowe absolutely went to war in this one, and showed why he was a first team all league performer in Portugal last year. Whe Dowe is hitting 3pt. shot he is unguardable. Siva flat laid it on the line, and shot the ball well from long range. Current college players also chipped in for KPA #1. Sean Brown (Union College) 14, Tony Horne (Lindsey Wilson) 13, and Jermaine Jackson (Florida Tech) 10. KPA #3 who was the 1 seed in the playoffs were led by former Western Kentucky and current pro in France A.J. Slaughter. Slaughter went for 33 points with 7 3pt. goals. Slaughter showed why he was an all league performer in France. Current pro in Germany Chartreal Hall had 20 and recent graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan Donovan Johnson had 15 for KPA#3.  Johnson continued his steady play in the KPA. The win by KPA#1 sets up an excellent final Tuesday night with Team Southern Indiana at 8:15.

Game 1 on the night was a war also.  Team Southern Indiana defeated KPA #2 by a score of 86 to 80 in a very well played basketball game. The win advanced Team SI into the 18th championship game of the KPA. Team SI was led by current Lincoln Trail J.C. player Darryl Baker with 31 points. Baker is a BIG TIME basketball player who will be major D1 eventually. Tenale Roland (Utah State 14) scored 14 and had an excellent floor game overall. Chis Whitehead (Fordham/transfer) scored 14 and continued his excellent play in the KPA. KPA #2 was led by Jazzmarr Ferguson (IU Southeast/Italy) with 24 points and just continued his all league play in the event. Ferguson is a class act who can flat play the game. Campbellsville big man A'Darius Pegues scored 17 and his best game of the KPA. He has nice hands and can finish around the basket. He can play at some level professionally. Antoine Watson (IU Southeast 13) had 14, and DeWhom McAfee (Spalding) 10. Team SI will play Tuesday at 8:15 in KPA Finals.

2014 KPA Championship Tuesday Results

The 18th Annual Kentuckiana Pro Am ended the season with two very exciting basketball games at Bailey Fieldhouse on the campus of Beth Haven Christian. The Championship was won by Team Southern Indiana. Team SI was assembled by Matt Dennison, and was a first class group. Team SI defeated KPA#1 106-91 in a very good game for 3 and a half quarters until Team SI pulled away. The 3rd Place game was by KPA#2 over KPA#3 by a score of 96 to 86.

2014 KPA Championship Game Recap

The KPA final was a war for 3 and a half quarters , but Team Southern Indiana pulled away 106-91. Team SI was led by Antonio Ballard with 40 points on several highlight reel dunks, and long range 3 pointers. Ballard had one of the best KPA championships in the history of the event. Ballard is a high level European player, who is basically unknown. “I have not had a player impress me in this event like Ballard, since Jeff Gibbs (Otterbein/Japan).  I told everyone about Gibbs and eventually he went on to lead the BBL in Germany in rebounding as a 6-2 Power Forward” said KPA Director Michael Stinnett. Darryl Baker (Lincoln Trail J.C.) poured in 24 points and may have been the most consistent player in the event. Tenale Roland (Utah State) had 12, and Chris Whitehead (Furman) scored 10. Roland and Whitehead made for a steady guard tandem throughout the event for Team SI. KPA #1 playing without Peyton Siva was led by Chris Dowe (Bellarmine/Portugal) with 21 points. Dowe showed over the past 3 weeks why he is in Europe. Dowe can also play at a higher level in Europe, based on his play in the KPA. Former Louisville Cardinal and Florida International big man Rakeem Buckles scored 20 points for KPA#1. Buckles showed that he is a solid stretch 4 with several long range 3pt. shots. Chase Spreen (Lindsey Wilson/Australia) scored 12 on 4 3pt. goals.

3rd Place Game Recap

KPA #2 defeated KPA#3 by a score of 96 to 86 in the consolation game. KPA#2 was led by former IU Southeast star Carlos Mitchell who poured in 27points.  Mitchell is a solid combo guard who can play professionally with the right team. Former Spalding standout Dewhom McAfee poured in 20, and KPA All League performer Jazzmarr Ferguson had 16. KPA#3 was led by pro in Germany Chartreal Hall who brought his A game on this night and scored 30 points in an excellent performance. Antonio Sullivan (Kentucky State) chipped in with 15, and current Pikeville University guard Trey Rakes had 13. Rakes as well as several other current college players got a lot of the event in regards to playing with and against quality talent. Donovan Johnson had 12 for KPA#3 and can play overseas in the right situation.
